Brookline Ranks High Among Best Places To Live In America

Local likely will not be surprised that multiple Massachusetts communities are ranked among the best places to live in the US, according to the community and school ranking site Niche.

Using a set of criteria that includes public schools, cost of living, diversity, weather, and housing, Niche ranked the best places to live in America and heavily featured communities in Massachusetts.  

Coming in at spot number seven, Cambridgeport received A+ grades for commute, health and fitness, nightlife, and public school categories. 

The Cambridge neighborhood has 10 thousand residents, multiple MBTA commute options, and is the site of a significant amount of new development. Cambridgeport is also doing its part for the environment, demonstrated by its five-star rating for leadership in sustainability from STAR Communities. 

Brookline, a Boston suburb, scored the number 12 spot in Niche's rankings. The town got perfect scores for public schools, good for families, and outdoor activities categories, among others. 

One of the largest towns in New England, Brookline is home to about 59,000 residents, a population that is becoming increasingly diverse. The town's website claims it is a highly desirable place to live because of its access to job opportunities, public transportation, and school systems.

Not far behind Brookline is the Port, a neighborhood in Cambridge that secured the number 17 spot in Niche's list. The Port received A+ scores for nightlife, health and fitness, commute, and good for families categories. 

Most of the Port is dedicated to residential areas for its seven thousand residents, but it also offers green spaces, high-tech labs and offices, and several small commercial areas. 

Making Niche's top 20 best places to live is Riverside, a Cambridge neighborhood that came in at number 19. The community received perfect marks for good for families, nightlife, health and fitness, and commute categories. 

Riverside boasts some of Cambridge's oldest settled areas. Located along the Charles River, the neighborhood has a population of approximately 7,500, and hosts the academic and administrative facilities for Cambridge College.
